the village of books
It was love at first sight when, in 2015, John and Lindsay Stewart discovered this historic house at the heart of the wonderful village of Montolieu. They bought the house in 2016 and named it Maison de Mallast, having discovered that it was once the Château de Mallast. Local records revealed that there had been a fortress on the site since as early as the 5th or 6th century AD.
In a prime position in the centre of the village, the original château was in the best location to protect the village’s inhabitants in times of turbulence and invasion. Maison de Mallast with its five guest bedrooms, and an independent two-bedroom gîte apartment, now offers the ideal accommodation for a short or long holiday break, with all of Montolieu’s many amenities available within just a few steps. The village provides a criss-cross network of little lanes and ancient houses to explore and photograph. Don’t miss the superb viewpoints at Place Esperou and from the bridge near the tourist information office!
